The Crisis of Possible War in Latin America was defused in seven days

After an incident on March 1st, the Latin American countries of Columbia, Ecuador and Venezuela were on the brink of war. At that critical moment, on March 7th, President Leonel Fernández of Dominican Republic brought the leaders of the respective countries together and successfully mediated the crisis with wisdom, diffusing the crisis and averting a possible war. In this way, the crisis of looming war in Latin America was transformed into peace. The work that President Leonel Fernández did has been recognized throughout the world.

Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, President of Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL), and Honorary Vice-President of Association of World Citizens (AWC), Zhang-men-ren of Tai Ji Men, presented the World Culture Peace Award and medal to President Leonel Fernández in recognition of his defusing the crisis of a possible war with wisdom and bringing peace to the world. On Dr. Hong’s behalf, Ms. Yu Mei-Jung, Vice President of FOWPAL, and Mr. Michael Selfridge, Director of Communications for FOWPAL, hosted the award ceremony at the Palace Hotel at 15:30, on April 6.

In 2005 President Leonel Fernández was invited to the World Summit of Love and Peace, organized by FOWPAL, Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy, UN/NGO AWC and the UN/NGO American Humanist Association at the Millennium UN Plaza Hotel on September 15. On that day, President Leonel Fernández and Dr. Hong, President of FOWPAL, turned a symbolic 3-foot long key of the world, as a demonstration to move the world forward with the power of love and peace. President Fernández also made a wish for peace stating, "I wish that people from over the world can understand each other, and that love and peace can prevail" and rang the Bell of Peace at the World Summit of Love and Peace.

That day, President Leonel Fernández also endorsed the Declaration of International Love and Peace Day and said in an interview "Let me tell you, it’s very emotional. For me, it’s been a great experience. Having a World Summit of Love and Peace, this is what the world needs. So, I want to commend you, and I want to show you my support, and support of Dominican people. Because what you are projecting, what you are disseminating around this world is what this world needs. So, instead of violence, instead of hatred, instead of exclusion, I think we should embrace each other, like sister and brother that are creatures of God. And, we can really understand, we can make difference in this planet. We should respect and understand each other, and we should behave in a sense of dignity."

President Leonel Fernández indeed put his commitment to peace into action. If the looming tension of war wasn’t dissipated in time, countless lives of world citizens would have been badly affected and may have causes mass casualties. Members of FOWPAL deeply appreciate President Leonel Fernández for personally putting the ideals of love and peace into action, and presented the World Culture Peace Award and Medal to him.

After receiving the award, President Leonel Fernández said that he felt great honor in receiving this award, proclaiming "I have tried to foster world peace through mutual understanding between different cultures and races. And, I know this is what you would like to share with others, I would like to commend you. I think what the world mostly needs now is to invite more people to join the movement of love and peace throughout the world. Then, human kind will be able to continue to survive. I would like to show my respect and support to you in continuing spreading the message of love and peace.

At the end of the award ceremony, President Leonel Fernández invited FOWPAL to visit the Dominican Republic for cultural exchanges.

In addition to President Leonel Fernández, World Culture Peace Award recipients include President Girma Wolde-Giorgis of Ethiopia, Prime Minister Keith Mitchell of Grenada, President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia, and President Fradique de Menezes of Sao Tome and Principe. The goal of this award is to recognize leaders who, emulating the trend of the world, have excelled in dedicating oneself to promoting love and a culture of peace throughout the world and through one's actions benefit an area, a country, and even create world peace.

Over the years, Dr. Hong Tao Tze has been invited to visit the five continents and had in-depth dialogues with world leaders in various circles, which included former UN Secretary Koffi Annan, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI and others. In addition, Dr. Hong was also invited to attend conferences held at the United Nations. On the path practicing love and peace, one should start to change from within him/herself. When people change from within themselves, they create positive influencing forces, which will quickly spread and the destiny of the world will be turned around.
