FOWPAL Promotes the Culture of Peace with Love and Conscience at the UN

New York, NY— The Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL), in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Bahrain to the UN, hosted the World Leader Summit of Love and Peace, with the theme “Promoting the Culture of Peace with Love and Conscience” at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Feb. 6, 2019, continuing the positive momentum from the event it co-hosted with the Permanent Mission of Equatorial Guinea to the UN at the United Nations the day before.

On behalf of the Permanent Mission of Bahrain to the UN, Mr. Hatem A. Hatem, Second Secretary for the Mission, welcomed all attendees. Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, President of FOWPAL, delivered welcome remarks, emphasizing that “Our innate conscience can guide us to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and true from false. Throughout history, conscience has been the key factor that has enabled people to steer clear of danger when encountering major crises and allowed them to do good deeds selflessly and bravely."

During the summit, a solemn ceremony of ringing the Ancient Bell of World Peace and Love was held. H.E. (At this solemn moment, I have the honor in the name of Benin to wish the world full of peace, sincerity and happiness. May our humanity prevail over all the challenges we face.) H.E. Mr. Roberto Flores Bermudez, former Foreign Minister of Honduras, rang the Bell and wished for “A life with tranquility and happiness.”

In addition to the bell ringing ceremony, a panel of diplomats and community and NGO leaders shared their views on conscience, love, and peace. H.E. Mr. Tukabu Tauati, Deputy Permanent Representative of Kiribati to the UN, stated, “I also want to take this opportunity to thank FOWPAL for highlighting today the need for all nations and peoples of the world to set aside one day every year to meditate and reflect deeply into their conscience, examining how they can contribute in more ways to a more peaceful and loving world for all.” Mr. Yerzhan Kuatbekov, Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the UN, stressed that “Kazakhstan has always supported peace, security, and harmony in the world.”

Rev. Cornell Edmonds, the Pastor of the Church of the Covenant, advocated the values of love and peace, saying, “Each moment as I do my work, the possibilities of world peace and love unfold. Regardless of what’s happening in the world, our reality still bends in the direction of love and peace.” Harlem’s Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely shared about achieving balance and harmony in life: "We need this conscience, love, and peace toward each other.”

Over the years, FOWPAL has awarded certificates of honor to leaders with extraordinary contributions to society. During the event, Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze presented a Certificate of Honor to John German, Director of Non-Profit Computing, for his peace-loving efforts and recognized him as Honorary International Development Committee Member of FOWPAL.

At the summit, FOWPAL also invited everyone to endorse the Declaration of International Day of Conscience, launched a day earlier at the UN. Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze and honored guests jointly supported the endorsement campaign, and each of them push a “compass of conscience” forward, shouting, “Conscience! Go! Go! Go! Let conscience be our guide!”

Rev. Dr. Dileepkumar Thankappan, President of World Yoga Community, said in an interview that he enjoyed the beautiful event as civilians and the United Nations are connecting for peace and harmony. Mr. John German stated in an interview, “FOWPAL has been a continuing presence at and around the UN for years, bringing people of conscience and goodwill together, and that’s the secret. When you bring people of conscience and goodwill together, good things will happen.”
